Our student program is designed to provide you with valuable hands-on experience while you pursue your degree. You will engage in challenging tasks, guided by a mentor who will encourage you to explore solutions, take initiative, and gain a comprehensive understanding of Daktronics products and processes. We aim to equip you with the skills necessary for success, preparing you for potential full-time roles post-graduation.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Mechanical Engineer Student, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in various areas, including:
- Developing design concepts and ideas using Creo.
- Creating prototypes through 3D printing, sheet metal forming, and other fabrication methods.
- Collaborating effectively as part of a team, managing your workload efficiently, and providing assistance as needed.
- Communicating clearly with team members and clients, both internal and external.
- Proposing enhancements for designs, processes, and products.
- Consistently adhering to scheduled hours and being open to additional hours when required.
- Performing other tasks as necessary to meet business objectives.
Available Opportunities:
Positions may vary based on business needs and personal interests, including:
- Manufacturing Process Engineer:
- Identifying and recommending process improvements to optimize product flow.
- Collaborating with Engineering on significant product modifications.
- Overseeing the implementation of incremental product enhancements through ECO process suggestions.
- Assisting in the development of prototype cabinet designs to gather feedback.
- Helping to construct workstations and fixtures, gathering feedback to assess effectiveness.
- Mechanical Design:
- Facilitating product development across its lifecycle, from conceptualization to production.
- Creating precise design drawings and documentation using Creo.
- Assisting Engineers with design tasks, drafting bills of materials, and routing documentation.
- Supporting the assembly and testing of prototypes, including structural and thermal evaluations.
- Preparing detailed drawings of sub-assemblies and components.
- Coordinating the manufacturing of systems on a project basis.
- Assisting with installations as necessary.
Compensation:
The typical hourly wage for this position ranges from $20.00 to $22.00, with actual offers reflecting various factors such as education, experience, location, and local regulations.
Academic Qualifications:
To be considered, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled as a student with a minimum of 12 credits.
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Ideally in the sophomore or junior year of study.
- Strong academic performance is essential, with a preference for a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Submission of unofficial or web transcripts is required with the application.
Additional Requirements:
Candidates should be available to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. Proficiency in computer software, including AutoCAD, is necessary, with Creo being preferred but not mandatory. Strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and self-motivation are essential. Candidates must be fluent in English, both written and verbal.
Physical requirements include the ability to operate automated equipment, lift and carry up to 45 lbs, and stand for extended periods. Candidates must meet all workplace safety standards and be at least 18 years old. Please note that Daktronics does not sponsor or extend immigration visas for this position.
