Position Overview:

The Senior Medical Director (SMD) serves as a pivotal physician leadership role, overseeing all aspects of neurology, neurosurgery, and spine surgery within the designated region.

This role entails a supervisory relationship with the Intermountain Medical Group's Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, and Spine Surgeons, fostering a collaborative environment with associated neuroscience providers.

The SMD will engage in a partnership to establish and manage Neurosciences across the region, collaborating with various disciplines including specialty care, community care, clinical programs, nursing, and integrated networks.

This leadership position is essential for driving performance and continuous enhancement of Neurosciences.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide strategic medical leadership for neuroscience services, prioritizing safety, quality care, and patient experience.

2. Develop a framework for sharing best practices and standardizing quality across all care sites.

3. Offer clinical and operational guidance to employed physicians and advanced practice providers in Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Spine Care, focusing on value and population health.

4. Collaborate with medical directors to ensure excellence in each specialty and subspecialty.

5. Identify and cultivate new specialized programs to enhance service offerings.

6. Partner with senior leadership to create and implement forward-thinking strategies for neurosciences that align with patient needs.

7. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with affiliated neuroscience physicians.

8. Lead clinical teams to support and execute clinical initiatives.

9. Recruit and retain a dedicated physician workforce committed to the organizational culture.

10. Drive efforts to improve care affordability and patient outcomes.

11. Collaborate with other senior medical directors to share best practices and develop strategic initiatives.

12. Focus on healthcare equity and enhancing the experience of neuroscience providers.

Qualifications:

1. Board-certified physician (MD or DO) with specialization in neurology, neurosurgery, or orthopedics.

2. Proven track record in a complex healthcare environment.

3. Experience in value-based care and population health.

4. Strong collaboration skills with employed and affiliated healthcare professionals.

5. Demonstrated success in clinical and business quality improvement initiatives.

6. Ability to lead high-performing clinical teams and implement effective care models.

7. Familiarity with telemedicine and digital healthcare solutions.

8. Experience in change management and clinical technology adaptation.


Physical Requirements:

Ability to communicate effectively, operate office equipment, and maintain focus for extended periods.
