POSITION OVERVIEW

The Pipefitter role is essential within EMCOR Government Services. This position requires adherence to all safety protocols and collaboration with team members on a daily basis. The Pipefitter will operate under the supervision of a Field Superintendent or Project Manager, depending on the job site.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are integral to this position. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

  • Utilize tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders to cut, thread, and shape pipes according to specifications.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related apparatus by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Affix pipes to structures and fixtures, including radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Conduct inspections and tests on installed systems and pipelines utilizing pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, and observational methods.
  • Measure and mark pipes for precise cutting and threading.
  • Prepare openings in structures such as bulkheads, decks, and walls for pipe installation using hand and power tools.
  • Modify, clean, and maintain piping systems, units, fittings, and associated machinery, adhering to specifications.
  • Install automatic controls for the regulation of piping systems.
  • Operate valves to control the flow of water or other gases or liquids from pipe sections.
  • Replace worn components as necessary.
  • Prepare cost estimates for clients as required.
  • Inspect job sites for potential obstructions and to ensure structural integrity.
  • Operate motorized pumps to eliminate water from flooded areas.
  • Apply protective coatings to nonferrous piping materials to prevent erosion.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, or a combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • OSHA 10 Certification is preferred.
  • Capability to read and interpret blueprints.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with the construction industry and its documentation.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Experience operating a forklift and/or scissor lift.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required.

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and other mechanical or construction software.
  • Experience with project management and document control software.
  • Knowledge of construction and financial software packages.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this role, employees will frequently be required to sit, see, talk, and hear. The role involves using hands to handle tools and controls, walking, reaching, climbing, and occasionally lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Employees will also need to commute to various job sites and navigate effectively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment may involve both office and field locations. Employees should expect to work outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and around moving mechanical parts. The noise level may range from moderate to loud.
