Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Support Specialist to join our team at Commonwealth Pain & Spine. As a Medical Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting our healthcare professionals, ensuring the smooth operation of our medical practice, and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage and Patient Care: Perform vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, weight, and height, at each patient visit.
  • Administrative Support: Sit down with patients and complete designated areas of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Medication Coordination: Coordinate blood thinner medications for procedures with cardiologists and post-op pain medications with patient surgeons.
  • EMR Management: Monitor provider buckets in Athena and enter all pertinent patient information and notes in the EMR software.
  • Scanning and Uploading: Scan all applicable patient paperwork and upload it to the EMR system.
  • Room Preparation: Prepare evaluation rooms and procedure rooms for patient encounters, and clean them post-patient encounters.
  • Drug Screening: Perform patient drug screening.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for pain procedures and assist providers with pain procedures.
  • Recovery Care: Care for patients in recovery and assist patients during checkout and transportation to their vehicles.
  • Travel and Preparation: Arrive at specified clinics at least 15 minutes before the first patient to allow for preparation of the work site.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Exceptional Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service skills to patients and staff.
  • Medical Terminology: Have knowledge of medical terminology.
  • EMR Proficiency: Quickly and accurately type notes into the EMR system as providers dictate.
  • Computer and Phone Skills: Possess strong computer and phone skills.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, coworkers, and patients.
  • Task Management: Navigate multiple, simultaneous tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Have advanced knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance policies, such as HIPAA.
  • Integrity and Judgment: Demonstrate high integrity, including maintenance of confidential information, and exercise good judgment and positively influence others.
  • Physical Abilities: Ability to help lift patients from procedure tables to wheelchairs and from wheelchairs to cars.
Education and Experience
  • Medical Assistant Experience: Medical Assistant experience is preferred.
  • Pain Management Experience: Pain Management experience is preferred.
  • EMR, KASPER, INSPECT Knowledge: EMR, KASPER, INSPECT knowledge and experience are preferred.
  • Driver's License and Insurance: If required to travel for company-related purposes, an active, valid driver's license and state minimum coverage vehicle insurance are required.
