Initially established in 1967 as the Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Memorial Naval Museum, it was rebranded as the National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) in 1997.

The Museum is dedicated to honoring all who served in and supported the Asiatic-Pacific theater of World War II, ensuring that the history, stories, and impact of this pivotal period are accessible to the public for generations to come.

A Smithsonian Affiliate and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, it attracts over 120,000 visitors each year, including more than 20,000 children and students.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Maintenance Director, the Maintenance Technician I operates under the guidance of the Maintenance Director and Maintenance Technician II to carry out general maintenance tasks within the buildings and grounds of the National Museum of the Pacific War and Admiral Nimitz Foundation.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute entry-level building maintenance, construction, light to moderate landscaping, and custodial tasks as assigned.
- Adhere to safety protocols while performing all duties.
- Address emergency repair requests (including after-hours) as directed.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
- Collaborate effectively and productively within the maintenance team.

General Duties
- Assist in the upkeep and repair of buildings, utility systems, stationary equipment, and operating motorized tools.
- Conduct general housekeeping tasks including cleaning restrooms, buildings, and grounds as assigned.
- Support special events and ceremonies, including the setup and breakdown of chairs, tables, risers, etc.
- Perform maintenance and repair work encompassing plumbing, masonry, welding, carpentry, painting, electrical, and mechanical tasks.
- Aid in the maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment systems, and components, along with other mechanical systems.
- Maintain and repair sprinkler systems as required.
- Mow lawns, edge walkways and curbs, trim shrubbery, and manage formal gardens and flowerbeds as assigned.
- Load and unload supplies and materials.
- Conduct inspections of operating machinery, equipment, and systems, maintaining records of such equipment and maintenance activities.
- Execute related work tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; education plus experience may be considered.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work 8-hour shifts on a variable schedule, including weekends and evenings.
- Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs and climbing ladders.
- Ability to work with moderate supervision and complete assigned tasks.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with team members and other staff.
- Experience in building maintenance and repair is preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Conditions
- Building environment with potential exposure to dust and allergens typical of normal business activities and human interaction.

Work will involve walking, standing, pulling and pushing, kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to work extended periods at a computer, machinery, or other equipment.
- May require working extended hours and some evenings.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a Full-Time position with a compensation of $18.00 per hour, including health insurance, sick leave, paid vacation, and holidays.

A 401-B retirement savings plan is available. Flexibility in lifestyle is necessary to accommodate evening and weekend work as required.
