Stanford University is seeking a Research Associate in Life Sciences to join a dynamic team dedicated to advancing our understanding of brain functionality and connectivity. This role is part of a pioneering research initiative focused on large-scale technologies for mapping brain activity.

The ideal candidate will possess experience with nonhuman primates and large-scale electrophysiological techniques. You will engage in groundbreaking projects aimed at exploring cognitive processes through the use of cutting-edge facilities and innovative large-scale electrophysiological recordings, including the use of neuropixels.

As a vital member of our team, you will collaborate with leading experts in experimental neuroscience, computational neuroscience, and machine learning. Your contributions will be instrumental in uncovering algorithmic principles that connect artificial intelligence with natural intelligence, ultimately striving to decode the mechanisms of intelligence within the brain and enhance the development of smarter AI.

Key Responsibilities:
- Train nonhuman primates to execute behavioral tasks.
- Conduct research experiments involving nonhuman primates, gather data, and assess data integrity.
- Document experimental outcomes and communicate findings to the team lead.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues on nonhuman primate projects and data acquisition.
- Assist in the formulation and adherence to research protocols.

Additionally, you will:
- Regularly inspect and uphold laboratory equipment and facilities to ensure compliance with sanitation standards, thereby guaranteeing the highest quality of animal care.
- Monitor adherence to relevant regulations and guidelines, including USDA, PHS, and AAALAC standards.
- Coordinate with veterinary staff to ensure the health and welfare of the animals.
- Engage daily with nonhuman primates to support their routine and enrichment activities.

Furthermore, you will assist in various aspects of surgical preparation and procedures, including:
- Organizing and preparing surgical instruments.
- Monitoring vital signs of patients.
- Collaborating with veterinary professionals for pre-operative and post-operative care, including administering medications and managing anesthesia.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline is required.

Skills and Competencies:
- A solid understanding of scientific principles and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively.
- Proven capability to maintain detailed records of experiments and their outcomes.
- Proficiency in computer skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new software and scientific applications.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage tasks under deadlines.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, and lift objects weighing over 40 pounds.
- Capability to work in a variety of physical conditions, including dusty or odorous environments.

Working Conditions:
- This position may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens and requires adherence to safety protocols when working with animals.
