POSITION SUMMARY


The Innovation Lab at Consumer Reports serves as a research and development incubator focused on creating, prototyping, and scaling solutions to address significant consumer challenges in the marketplace.

The advent of Generative AI is revolutionizing the way individuals access and interpret information, make choices, and reach decisions; the integration of personal data with persuasive technology is already shaping consumer preferences, beliefs, and behaviors.

This evolution is crucial for consumer advocates to recognize, and for Consumer Reports to address as a vigilant consumer watchdog.

The Innovation Lab is at the cutting edge of crafting new technologies and experiences that provide consumers with reliable information in an AI-driven landscape.

We are seeking a results-oriented Product Manager to contribute to the development and enhancement of CR product experiences utilizing large language models, starting with AskCR.

In this role, you will report to the Director of Product R&D within the Innovation Lab. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement.

Under our CRFlex program, candidates residing more than 75 miles from one of our primary office locations may be eligible for Fully Remote status.

Furthermore, the successful candidate must reside in specific states.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

You will drive the realization of AskCR's potential by guiding a product that empowers consumers with high-quality information about products and facilitates their actions in the marketplace.

Achieving this will necessitate a deep understanding of the RAG architecture that underpins AskCR, evaluation processes that ensure quality outputs, and the significance of trust and safety features such as guardrails.

You will analyze the data generated through AskCR's usage and assess user interactions; you will extract insights regarding user intentions and identify areas for enhancement and new features to prioritize for an improved user experience.

Additionally, you will become proficient in CR's internal content, testing data, and subject matter expertise to design requirements for our evolving knowledge base and data pipelines.

You will engage in rapid experimentation and prompt engineering to refine system inputs and outputs, progressively enhancing AskCR's efficiency and response quality.

As a Product Manager, you will take on a leadership role within our dynamic, cross-functional product team.

You will help define our strategic direction, oversee daily operations, and execute our vision of delivering trustworthy information and assisting consumers in navigating a complex marketplace.

You will collaborate with stakeholders across Consumer Reports to ensure that our development roadmap aligns with our performance objectives, while also building in accordance with CR's organizational mission and strategy.


QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

You possess an entrepreneurial mindset with over 5 years of experience pioneering software product development, preferably within leading technology and data organizations.

You have a proven track record of delivering products from concept to execution, confidently managing intricate projects and collaborating across functions to meet objectives.
You have a strong product acumen.

You are well-versed in Product Management, Software Engineering, Strategy, Analytics, Marketing, Legal, Design, Content, or Finance, with expertise in at least two of these areas.

You maintain a consumer-centric approach.

You are deeply user-focused and have a history of delivering high-quality products that meet user needs and maximize impact.

FAIR COMPENSATION & A JUST WORKPLACE

At Consumer Reports, we are dedicated to fair and transparent compensation, striving to offer competitive, market-informed salaries. The target salary range for this position is $150k to $165k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the midpoint of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be determined by their unique combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
