Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Lines Underwriter III to join our team at Western National Insurance Group / Umialik Insurance Company. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for developing a book of business by writing and retaining commercial lines accounts through assigned agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain strong agency relationships to drive business growth and profitability.
  • Effectively manage an agency territory to achieve established growth and profit goals.
  • Assess risk and exposures on new and existing business to identify opportunities to maximize assigned territory growth and loss ratio objectives.
  • Analyze operations and exposures of different types of risks to write, renew, or modify business.
  • Manage high-risk/hazard business and apply expertise in specific areas.
  • Mentor colleagues to increase effectiveness in knowledge or skill areas.
  • Apply knowledge of coverage, forms, symbols, and endorsements per line of business.
  • Focus on writing new business as defined by annual goals.
  • Apply rating knowledge, experience rating, composite rating, and scheduled rating.
Requirements
  • Demonstrate strong time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Exhibit strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Apply analytical skills with sound business judgment.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of rating concepts.
  • Be proficient in various core systems, office, and computer equipment, and software packages.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in insurance or finance or equivalent related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrate organizational and prioritization skills with ability to accomplish multiple time-sensitive priorities.
  • Exhibit understanding of industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts.
  • Apply ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Have five plus years of experience in a commercial lines underwriting role.
  • Hold CPCU, AU, or CIC certification.
Compensation and Benefits

The full hiring range for this role is $79,800 - $119,700, annually.
