Position Summary:
We are currently seeking a skilled Commercial Lines Underwriter III to enhance our underwriting team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a portfolio of business by acquiring and retaining commercial lines accounts through designated agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture robust relationships with agencies.
- Manage an assigned agency territory effectively to meet growth and profitability targets.
- Evaluate risks and exposures on both new and existing accounts to identify growth opportunities and optimize loss ratios.
- Utilize established underwriting authority and practices to assess operations and exposures of various risk types for writing, renewing, or modifying business.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage high-risk business consistently.
- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the field and recognized expertise in specific areas.
- Mentor team members proactively, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of coverages, forms, symbols, and endorsements relevant to each line of business.
- Focus primarily on writing new business in alignment with annual regional goals.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of rating practices, including composite and scheduled rating.
Qualifications:
Essential Skills:
- Proven time management abilities with a track record of meeting deadlines.
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Analytical mindset with sound business judgment.
- In-depth understanding of rating concepts.
- Proficient in the use of core systems, office equipment, and software applications.
- Bachelor's degree in insurance, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Attributes:
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, capable of managing multiple time-sensitive tasks.
- Thorough understanding of industry standards, practices, and underwriting principles.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A minimum of five years' experience in a commercial lines underwriting capacity.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, or CIC are advantageous.
