Key Responsibilities
  • Interview patients for family/patient medical history, patient's contraceptive history, menstrual history, pregnancy history, and sexual history.
  • Instruct patients in the use of prenatal vitamins and iron supplements, if prescribed.
  • Obtain consent forms for release of other facilities' medical records and HIV testing.
  • Explain Craven County Health Department contracts and obtain signatures.
  • Educate patients on clinic procedures, anatomy, medication, signs of labor, preterm labor, and danger signs.
  • Determine estimated dates of confinement by last menstrual period dates, sign appropriate lab orders, and collect specimens, wet smears, chlamydia, and Pap smears.
  • Assess fetal heart tones with Dopplers, assess fundal heights, and review labs for abnormalities.
  • Prepare patients for physical exams by physician extenders, educate patients on ongoing discussions of contraceptive options, preterm labor, and signs of labor.
  • Update screening questions, address any problems, discuss with physicians or physician extenders, and review physician extenders' instructions with patients.
  • Assist with referrals, chart labs, and record ultrasounds.
  • Perform NSTs as needed.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • One year of professional nursing experience.
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing.
Benefits

Craven County offers a wide variety of employee benefits, including health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan.

Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period.

Craven County contributes 2% of eligible employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account, regardless of the employee's deferral amount, and matches employee deferrals up to an additional 3%.

Regular full-time employees earn annual leave based on years of service, with accrual rates ranging from 10 to 20 days per year.

Craven County accepts eligible sick leave from the State of North Carolina, any of its political subdivisions, any local government entity or authority, or municipality in North Carolina.

County employees receive 11-14 paid holidays annually, with the Board of County Commissioners adjusting the holiday schedule as deemed necessary.

Eligible employees earn $200 in longevity after five years of service by October 31 of the qualifying year, with benefits increasing by $25 per year up to a maximum of $1,000.

Craven County offers a merit program, with up to 56% of eligible employees receiving a performance-based merit increase each year.
