Job Title: Appraiser II Specialist

Craven County, NC is seeking a highly skilled Appraiser II Specialist to join our team. As an Appraiser II Specialist, you will be responsible for performing complex appraisals of residential, commercial, and industrial properties, as well as vacant land, for tax purposes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform specialized work in appraising improved properties and vacant land in the jurisdictional boundaries of Craven County.
  • Analyze large populations of real property sales data to establish accurate valuation estimates for tax assessment/revaluation purposes.
  • Work closely with the Chief Appraiser in determining neighborhood boundary lines, establishing a grading file for comparable types of construction, and maintaining a sales file.
  • Assist in the sales analysis of different neighborhoods to determine the accurate valuation of land and buildings to be applied in the county-wide revaluation process.
  • Handle taxpayer appeals, both informal and formal, and assist with board of equalization and review hearings.
  • Maintain real property inventory and review inventory and values for accuracy and consistency.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university including or supplemented by courses in real property appraisal.
  • Five years' experience in appraisal work, preferably including experience in appraising residential, commercial, or industrial properties.
  • Must attain certification as a tax appraiser by the Local Government Division of the North Carolina Department of Revenue within one year of being assigned duties as a tax appraiser.
