Position Summary

We are looking for an Assistant Nurse Manager for our 29-bed Emergency Department. This department is committed to a safe and efficient nursing staffing model and serves as a critical component of the hospital's operations. Key features of this newly renovated department include 10 expedited care spaces and 3 safe spaces. The successful candidate will:
  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of nursing staff within designated patient care units. Ensure that patient needs are met and assess the quality of nursing care and performance. Engage in planning for assigned units and coordinate activities with other patient care units and related departments.
  • Organize and facilitate training for unit staff members, actively participating in guidance and educational initiatives. Engage in the hiring process and be responsible for the development, evaluation, and ongoing management of direct reports.
  • Deliver professional nursing care in accordance with EHC guidelines and protocols during bedside assignments. Uphold our Care Transformation Model to foster an environment of trust, fairness, consistency, and confidentiality among team members and with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the consistent practice of bedside reporting and conduct monthly audits. Share knowledge with colleagues within the department. Adjust clinical assignments based on patient care needs and staff competencies. Promote a safe, therapeutic, and customer-friendly environment. Address patient, family, and staff concerns promptly, striving for resolution. Provide feedback to the patient care team regarding issues. Demonstrate clinical expertise to mentor staff in daily activities. Pursue continuous learning to enhance knowledge in clinical specialties. Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members and ancillary departments to monitor and achieve quality patient outcomes. Advocate for evidence-based changes to clinical practices to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Ensure service excellence is practiced within the unit and shared throughout the healthcare system. Utilize problem-solving skills to optimize patient flow while maintaining high-quality care. Collaborate with the healthcare team regarding bed management to ensure appropriate patient placement based on clinical needs.
  • Manage PDSA cycles for specific improvement initiatives in partnership with the Unit Director, CNS, UNE, and the unit practice council. Support the development of evidence-based practice protocols. Educate staff and monitor compliance within the cohort; address non-compliance issues.
  • Conduct documentation audits for the cohort in collaboration with quality and business managers. Foster a culture that promotes effective working relationships within a safe working environment. Utilize and model conflict management behaviors within the scope of responsibility. Identify service recovery strategies that uphold individual dignity. Be knowledgeable and articulate about performance against service standards.
  • Monitor service behaviors of the cohort, providing coaching for consistency among all staff. Address and manage customer service issues that arise in daily operations. Engage in daily rounds with patients and families.
  • Assist in the investigation of STARS reports or other customer service issues as directed by management. Identify customer service challenges in other departments that may impact the safe, accurate, and timely provision of patient care and the efficient use of resources.
  • Contribute agenda items for huddles. Attend staff meetings regularly. Support fellow Assistant Nurse Managers in their initiatives.
  • Provide input for the accurate preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, including staffing considerations, patient flow challenges, and opportunities for process improvements.
  • Manage resources to ensure safe, cost-effective, and clinically appropriate patient care. Understand the established area budget and adjust resource utilization to minimize variances. Work within a Shared Governance framework to identify and address issues, solve problems, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Participate in departmental and interdepartmental committees to address unit and system challenges.
  • Implement service, quality, and productivity enhancements. Collaborate within the UPC and across the organization to identify and develop innovative strategies. Manage the unit to meet established cost per unit of service. Optimize staff time and non-salary resources to improve quality while reducing costs.
  • Identify the need for capital equipment and repairs. Confirm staffing models with the Business Manager to ensure clinical efficacy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Five years of nursing experience.
  • Current RN license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board required.
  • BLS certification required. ACLS may be required in specific areas.
