Position Summary
We are seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager for a 29-bed Emergency Department. This unit is dedicated to a safe and efficient nurse staffing model, serving as a critical component of the hospital's operations. Key features of this newly updated department include 10 expedited care spaces and 3 safe spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of nursing staff within one or more patient care units.
- Ensure that patient needs are met and assess nursing care and performance.
- Participate in the planning of unit work and coordinate activities with other patient care units and departments.
- Organize training for unit staff and engage in guidance and educational programs.
- Involved in the hiring process and responsible for the development, evaluation, and ongoing management of direct reports.
- Provide professional nursing care in accordance with guidelines and protocols during bedside assignments.
- Foster an environment of trust, fairness, consistency, and confidentiality with team members and customers.
- Ensure consistent bedside reporting practices and conduct monthly audits.
- Share knowledge within the workgroup and adjust clinical assignments based on patient care needs and staff competencies.
- Promote a safe, therapeutic, and customer-friendly environment, addressing patient, family, and staff concerns promptly.
- Provide feedback to the patient care team regarding issues and demonstrate clinical knowledge to coach staff.
- Engage in continuous learning to enhance knowledge in clinical specialties.
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members and ancillary departments to monitor and achieve quality patient outcomes.
- Manage PDSA cycles for improvement efforts in collaboration with leadership.
- Support the development of evidence-based protocols and educate staff on compliance.
- Conduct documentation audits in partnership with quality and business managers.
- Build and maintain a culture that promotes effective working relationships within a safe environment.
- Identify and implement service recovery strategies that uphold individual dignity.
- Monitor service behaviors and coach staff for consistency.
- Address customer service issues that arise in daily operations.
- Participate in staff meetings and provide input for budget preparation, including staffing and patient flow considerations.
- Manage resources to ensure safe, cost-effective, and clinically appropriate patient care.
- Participate in departmental committees to address unit and system challenges.
- Implement service, quality, and productivity improvements while optimizing staff time and resources.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Five years of nursing experience.
- Current RN license or temporary permit approved by the relevant licensing board required.
- BLS certification required; ACLS may be necessary in certain areas.
