Job Overview

Position Objective:

The Senior Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing all operational units within the organization. This includes Fresh Cut, Protein, Repack, Shipping, Receiving, and Ripening. The individual will ensure adherence to safety protocols, food safety standards, product quality, customer satisfaction, inventory oversight, material planning, cost management, and vendor relationships. This role is accountable for achieving P&L results that align with budgetary expectations. Collaborating with facility teams, the Senior Operations Manager will manage all facets of operational performance to meet quality, food safety, regulatory standards, customer service, and cost objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily production scheduling and ensure that resources (raw materials, labor, equipment) are efficiently allocated to meet demand.
  • Collaborate closely with the Maintenance Manager to prioritize facility and equipment maintenance.
  • Develop both short- and long-term capital investment plans in partnership with the Maintenance Manager and General Manager.
  • Ensure that quality standards are consistently met and reinforced.
  • Foster the development of staff to cultivate strong leadership capabilities.
  • Establish and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality, food safety, customer service, and financial performance.
  • Conduct regular operational improvement reviews with staffing agencies to enhance production efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Analyze and implement best manufacturing practices across facilities.
  • Lead initiatives to achieve operational savings and ensure that savings are tracked effectively.
  • Provide direction and coordination in addressing immediate business challenges (e.g., recalls, product holds, or other significant issues).
  • Manage inventory discrepancies, food bank orders, and claims related to excess losses or supplier issues to control costs and ensure prompt resolution.
  • Act as a liaison with Finance, Quality, and Sales to align with the company’s manufacturing strategy, maximizing quality, manufacturing, procurement, and logistics.
  • Work with procurement teams to develop cost-effective sourcing strategies that guarantee a fresh supply of quality raw products.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Food Science is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in plant operations, preferably at the production manager or superintendent level.
  • Proficiency in MRP systems; SAP experience is advantageous.
  • A collaborative team player with strong communication, analytical, and management skills to lead a diverse workforce.
  • Demonstrated strengths in verbal and written communication, analytical thinking, planning, and problem-solving.
  • Project management expertise.
  • Experience in manufacturing development.
  • Results-oriented mindset.
  • Flexibility and a strong customer/client service orientation.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
