Job Overview

Position Summary

PeaceHealth is seeking a Cardiac Monitoring Specialist - Telemetry for a Per Diem/Relief, 8 Hour, Evening role.

Role Responsibilities

This position entails the acquisition and analysis of cardiac physiological monitoring data, documenting any variations in arrhythmias, and communicating issues to a registered nurse or physician. The specialist is also responsible for evaluating and maintaining equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Key Duties
  • Utilize the designated monitoring device in alignment with physician directives. Proficient in all functionalities of central monitoring systems.
  • Continuously observe monitors, identifying and recording any alterations in heart rhythm and arrhythmias per departmental protocols. Interpret EKG results and relay critical information to the physician or nurse as per departmental standards.
  • Assist physicians in reviewing rhythm history.
  • Educate staff on central monitoring capabilities and the role of the Monitor Technician.
  • Perform clerical tasks as required, which may include managing admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma preferred or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Completion of Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, or similar program.
  • Required: Completion of EKG training and monitoring equipment training within one month of hire.
Experience Requirements
  • Preferred: Experience in a healthcare environment, particularly within cardiology.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development to meet patient needs.
Certification Requirements
  • Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support certification.
Skills Required
  • Basic computer proficiency, including MS Office applications. (Required)
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. (Required)
  • Fundamental knowledge of heart anatomy and physiology. (Required)
Work Environment

Physical Demands
  • Patient handling limited to 35 lbs. without assistive devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills necessary for operating medical equipment and executing precise tasks.
  • Frequent pushing/pulling up to 45 lbs. (e.g., medical carts).
  • Ability to perform hands-on CPR for at least 20 minutes using appropriate force (National Association of EMS Physicians and AHA). Frequency should be occasional.
  • Ability to navigate the area with frequent sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and kneeling.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
Environmental Factors
  • Exposure to biohazards, bodily fluids, and airborne particles.
  • Must be capable of completing tasks in a noisy environment.
Mental/Visual Requirements
  • Vision and hearing must be within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
Compensation

The salary range for this position at PeaceHealth is $30.93. The hiring rate is influenced by various factors, including education, training, work experience, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
