About the Role:
As a vital member of the surgical team, the Cardiovascular Perfusion Specialist plays a crucial role in open-heart procedures by expertly managing extracorporeal circulation equipment. This position requires a high level of skill and precision to ensure optimal patient outcomes during surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Closely monitor the patient's circulatory system, taking necessary actions and communicating effectively with the surgical team.
- Conduct physiological assessments and monitor patient responses throughout surgical procedures.
- Operate heart-lung machines and other mechanical devices to maintain blood conservation during surgeries.
- Utilize platelet separators for processing autologous blood to create topical blood products.
- Provide ongoing support for patients' circulatory needs outside the operating room, including the use of ventricular assist devices and extracorporeal life support systems.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- A degree from an accredited Cardiovascular Perfusion technology program, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiovascular Perfusionists (C.S.C.P.) and/or certification from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in interacting with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- A comprehensive understanding of various healthcare roles and their contributions to patient care.
