About the Role

Vulcan Materials Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shop Operations Manager to oversee projects throughout our Alabama locations. This role will involve promoting a culture of safety, implementing solutions, managing employee relations, determining work procedures, and performing welding and maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel and Project Management: Oversee projects throughout all of our Alabama locations, and occasionally travel out of state.
  • Promote Safety: Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.
  • Implement Solutions: Consult with Plant Managers on issues/projects and create solutions, handling the project from start to finish.
  • Manage Employee Relations: Provide strong leadership, training, team building, and supervision to all of the Field and Shop Crews.
  • Determine Work Procedure: Determine work procedures, interpret complex blueprints, complete assigned tasks, and delegate duties to personnel concerned with welding on mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Weld Materials: Weld materials in flat, vertical, and overhead positions, select rod and weld type, and welder setting.
  • Inspect Equipment and Perform Repairs: Assist and organize the work of employees in the daily inspection and maintenance of the facility to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations.
Requirements
  • Experience: Prior experience in industrial welding in a leadership capacity is preferred.
  • Leadership and Management Skills: Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Must have the ability to work independently and problem-solve while working alone or as part of a team.
  • Flexibility: Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
