Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at II-VI Aerospace & Defense. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and integrating precision opto-mechanical systems for various applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop precision opto-mechanical systems, including gimbaled telescopes, positioning mechanisms, and integrated sensor assemblies.
  • Perform thermal, vibrational, and shock analysis to ensure system performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design requirements are met and project schedules are adhered to.
  • Develop and maintain system-level CAD models, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform analyses necessary to certify functional and performance requirements, including FEA, dynamic loads characterization, and thermal analyses.
Requirements
  • Minimum 9 years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor's degree or related discipline.
  • Experience with design and analysis of subsystems utilizing materials such as ceramics, specialty metals, and optical coatings.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering tools and methods, including error budgeting, FMEA, and TPM tracking.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with precision mechanism design, analysis, assembly, and/or testing methods.
  • Knowledge of optical testing or dynamic testing and data reduction.
  • Experience with Sigmadyne's Sigfit software.
Working Conditions

This position operates in a professional office environment, with routine use of standard office equipment. The ability to walk and move about the office is required, as well as the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
