Salary: $32 - $38 per hour, commensurate with experience

The Cultural Resource Project Specialist will facilitate various initiatives across the Great Basin Region, primarily working from a remote office environment (assignments will be from either Draper, UT, Cedar City, UT, or Rawlins, WY); occasional fieldwork may be necessary to provide additional support (ideally 85% office work, 15% fieldwork). When fieldwork is required, it may range from single-day to multi-day assignments. Travel expenses for field projects will be covered or reimbursed.

POSITION SUMMARY: This role involves planning and managing cultural resource projects throughout the Great Basin, including coordinating fieldwork, managing field data, preparing deliverables, liaising with agencies, and engaging in other cultural resource-related activities.

  • Conduct pre-field literature reviews
  • Perform background and archival research
  • Plan and oversee fieldwork
  • Evaluate and manage field data collected by others
  • Document archaeological sites and isolates
  • Assess NRHP eligibility
  • Prepare and revise deliverables
  • Complete daily monitoring and inspection forms
  • Draft monitoring reports, excavation logs, and technical reports
  • Coordinate with state and federal agencies
  • Review cultural resource documents for state and federal agencies
  • Act as Field Director or Principal Investigator
  • Conduct Class III (intensive pedestrian) cultural resources inventory
  • Document archaeological sites and isolates
  • Perform probing, shovel testing, and data recovery excavation
  • Monitor archaeological activities during construction
  • Support and actively participate in Eocene Environmental Group's safety culture and employee ownership.
  • Adhere to applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completed coursework leading to a graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field
  • Experience as a Project Archaeologist/Principal Investigator - graduate degree, completion of a field school, and 2 years of professional experience as a Field Director, with qualifications for agency permitting based on SOI Professional Qualification Standards.
  • Expertise in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in the Great Basin.
  • Skilled in documenting archaeological sites and isolates in the Great Basin.
  • Proficient in using handheld field technology (e.g., ArcGIS applications paired with sub-meter GPS).
  • Ability to survey an average of 50 acres/8 miles per day (excluding resource documentation) and carry personal health and safety equipment.
  • Capable of working in moderate weather conditions (variable temperatures and inclement weather, including rain and snow).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently while collaborating in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and make adjustments based on feedback.
  • Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy.
  • Excellent navigational skills (GPS and compass) and ability to operate 4WD vehicles.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to perform job duties and communicate effectively with colleagues and vendors.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience using mobile devices for documenting cultural resources.
  • Familiarity with sub-meter GPS receivers.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications.
  • Permitted or eligible for permitting on BLM lands in the Great Basin.
  • Previous training in NHPA, NEPA, FERC, or other cultural or environmental regulations.
  • Strong writing and editing capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to assess resources for NRHP eligibility.
  • Experience authoring multiple archaeological site forms and inventory reports.
  • Authored a master's thesis.
  • Prior experience assisting state and federal agencies.
  • Experience in utility compliance inspection projects.
