Lead Geotechnical Engineer

Position Summary: The primary role of the individual is to oversee and manage various geotechnical engineering projects.
- The individual will function as a Senior Engineer within the Construction Materials Testing Division. Key responsibilities will encompass supervision of inspections and evaluations of soil properties (including bearing capacity and density); reinforced concrete and masonry assessments; modular retaining wall oversight; structural steel evaluations; analysis of laboratory results; inspection of shallow and deep foundation installations; and monitoring of asphalt applications.
- The individual will be tasked with generating revenue through the cultivation and management of both existing and prospective client relationships. Active involvement in marketing initiatives and new client acquisition efforts will be expected alongside business development personnel. Sustaining current client relationships while seeking new opportunities will be crucial.
- The individual will prepare project proposals and develop cost estimates and budgets, along with other necessary proposal documentation.
- The individual will be responsible for reviewing project specifications and special inspection criteria for assigned projects, as well as evaluating daily inspection reports. All reports must be reviewed, signed, and delivered to clients and project stakeholders promptly.
- Willingness to conduct site visits to assess construction activities, evaluate site inspector performance, foster relationships with contractors and/or owners, and provide engineering support as needed is essential.
- Monthly invoicing for assigned projects will be subject to review and approval by the Senior Engineer.
- Assist in the development, training, and mentoring of junior professional staff and technicians.
- Effective communication and interaction with clients, colleagues, field personnel, and management is a must.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspections consulting, Geotechnical Engineering, and Project Management is required.
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering is mandatory.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in South Carolina or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity is necessary.
- Experience in managing multiple ongoing projects, scheduling, and budget evaluation or review is preferred.
- The individual must demonstrate clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and departmental staff.
- Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of the regional development and construction market and established connections with potential clients.
- The individual must be self-driven and capable of effectively managing their own time and the work priorities of field staff.
