Job Summary

Bloodworks is seeking a highly skilled Animal Research Technician III to join our team. As a key member of our vivarium operations team, you will be responsible for providing leadership and expertise in animal care, research, and facilities maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Animal Welfare and Regulations
    • Ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and guidelines
    • Assist with regulatory reports and data entry
    • Collaborate with the Manager of Regulatory and Animal Care Programs to ensure accurate and timely data entry
  • Hands-On Animal Use Procedures
    • Train and certify animal use procedures
    • Perform animal use procedures in support of research projects
  • Animal Care and Facilities Maintenance
    • Provide animal care and husbandry services
    • Perform technical manipulations such as ear tagging, injections, and blood collections
    • Assist with facilities cleaning, equipment monitoring, and maintenance
  • Lead Trainer and Subject Matter Expert
    • Train and certify Bloodworks and external client staff on vivarium methods and SOPs
    • Train staff on animal use procedures and vivarium databases
Requirements
  • Experience working with research mice and performing technical work in a laboratory setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in animal use procedures for mice
  • Surgical experience preferred
  • Knowledge of husbandry, behavior, and phenotypes of mice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a vivarium environment with exposure to aerosol dander from mice. The incumbent will be required to wear protective clothing and follow health and safety protocols.

This position requires occasional overtime and on-call status, as well as the ability to participate in a 24/7 vivarium emergency response team.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and provide documentation of immunizations and vaccinations.
