Director of Operations

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a highly skilled and experienced Director of Operations to manage the daily administrative functions of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. This is an exempt-level, benefited position that requires a strong background in management, administration, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic goals that align with the department's objectives, in partnership with the department chair and senior leadership team.
- Operational Management: Oversee the daily operations of the department, including administrative, financial, human resources, and educational functions.
- Financial Management: Serve as the senior fiscal officer for the department, responsible for financial reports, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with school and university financial policies.
- Staff Management: Hire, mentor, and manage the performance of department staff, developing and implementing staffing plans to resource priority programs.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with Engineering and University partners, including Graduate and Undergraduate Programs, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, and Facilities Management.
- Space Management: Promote the efficient use of space within the department, providing feedback and recommendations to the department chair regarding space allocation and management.
- IT Support: Oversee the IT needs of the department, ensuring appropriate support from partner groups.
- Emergency Preparedness: Remain current on emergency preparedness activities in the School and the University.
- Education: A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Relevant exempt-level experience may substitute for a degree.
- Experience: Eight years of increasingly responsible management and administrative duties is required; at least two years of supervisory and management experience with a team is required.
- Skills: Proficiency with Outlook, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat is required; proficiency with Workday HR and Financials, Student Information Systems, Box, building access, or similar programs experience is preferred.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $92,200 - $115,300, commensurate with education and experience.
