Director of Pre-Arrival Operations

The Director of Pre-Arrival and Financial Clearance is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and operational management of pre-arrival and financial clearance services at the University of Virginia Medical Center. This position requires a seasoned healthcare professional with expertise in patient access, financial clearance, and operations management.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement strategic plans to improve pre-arrival and financial clearance processes, ensuring timely and efficient patient access to healthcare services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including revenue cycle, clinical, and scheduling, to design and implement front-end processes related to pre-arrival and financial clearance services.
- Oversee all pre-arrival activities, including handoff from scheduling, insurance eligibility and benefits verification, referral management, prior authorization management, patient portion estimation, pre-service collections, and communication with internal and external customers.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies governing healthcare delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by monitoring operations, services, and programs, and initiating changes as required.
- Work with constituents to improve quality of scheduling information and clinical documentation to support ordered services.
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree must be obtained within 4 years of hire or transfer.
- 10 years of healthcare PFS/finance experience and/or admitting/patient access experience required.
- 5 years of management experience in a large academic medical center or equivalent environment of exposure to complex healthcare organizations required.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
