About Us:

The Materials Science and Failure Analysis Section specializes in addressing intricate materials challenges through both experimental and analytical techniques. We collaborate with various governmental and commercial entities across multiple technical domains.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Support laboratory initiatives for research endeavors focused on materials synthesis, enhancement, and failure assessment.
  • Employ diverse chemical and physical methodologies for materials creation and utilize bench-top characterization methods to analyze material systems.
  • Conduct data evaluation and effectively communicate findings from project activities both verbally and in written form to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist in or lead the design and construction of laboratory equipment, including electronic, thermal, and mechanical systems.


Daily Tasks:
  • Under the guidance of senior personnel, engage in analytical and experimental tasks within materials science and chemistry laboratory environments.
  • Perform troubleshooting on experimental techniques and data collection instruments as needed.
  • Analyze and summarize gathered data using various post-processing tools and report findings to the project team.
  • Support or spearhead the design and assembly of specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with other operational teams to meet project requirements.


Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science & Engineering is required.
  • 0-5 years of hands-on experience with laboratory analytical instruments, preferably in chemistry or materials characterization.
  • 0-5 years of demonstrated strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to work independently and convey complex information effectively.
  • 0-2 years of practical experience with LabVIEW or similar control engineering software, as well as programming languages (Fortran, Python, etc.) is preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience in the design and assembly of laboratory equipment. Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Solid Works), process flow diagramming, and control systems is advantageous.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.


Additional Information:

The selected applicant will undergo a government security review and must fulfill eligibility criteria for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required.
