Materials Science Research Engineer

About Us:
The Materials Science and Failure Analysis Section is dedicated to developing innovative solutions for intricate materials challenges through both experimental and analytical techniques. We cater to a diverse range of government and commercial clients across various technical domains.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide laboratory assistance for research initiatives focused on materials synthesis, enhancement, and failure assessment.
- Employ a range of chemical and physical methodologies for materials creation and utilize bench-top characterization techniques to analyze material systems.
- Conduct data analysis and effectively communicate findings from project activities both verbally and in written reports to a multidisciplinary team.
- Support or lead the design and construction of laboratory equipment, including electronic, thermal, and mechanical systems.
Daily Duties:
- With guidance from experienced personnel, carry out analytical and experimental tasks in materials science and chemistry laboratories.
- As needed, troubleshoot experimental techniques and data collection instruments.
- Analyze and compile gathered data using various post-processing tools and present results to the project team.
- Assist or lead in the design and construction of specialized laboratory equipment.
- Collaborate with other departments to meet project requirements.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science & Engineering is required.
- 0-5 years of hands-on experience with laboratory analytical instruments, ideally related to chemistry or materials analysis.
- 0-5 years of strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to work independently and convey complex information effectively.
- 0-2 years of practical experience with LabVIEW or similar control engineering software, as well as programming languages (Fortran, Python, etc.) is preferred.
- 0-2 years of experience in the design and assembly of laboratory equipment. Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), process flow diagramming, and control systems is advantageous.
- A valid driver’s license is necessary.
Additional Requirements:
The selected applicant will undergo a government security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required.
