Position Overview:
The Materials Science and Failure Analysis Section is dedicated to addressing intricate materials challenges through both experimental and analytical methodologies. Our team collaborates with various governmental and commercial entities across multiple technical domains.

Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in hands-on experimental and analytical tasks in metallurgy and materials science, focusing on failure analysis and applied materials characterization.
- Utilize a range of metallurgical laboratory instruments and techniques for the preparation, characterization, and evaluation of diverse materials.
- Collaborate with team members and work independently to devise solutions that meet clients' material analysis requirements.

Daily Duties:
- Conduct analytical and experimental work in metallurgical and materials science laboratories in conjunction with senior personnel.
- Perform routine characterizations and analyses using advanced instruments such as scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction.
- Prepare metallographic specimens through standard laboratory procedures, including grinding, polishing, and the application of chemical etchants.
- Troubleshoot experimental methods and data acquisition instruments as needed.
- Collaborate with project team members and clients to establish task scopes and timelines for technical deliverables.
- Provide consistent updates to clients both in writing and verbally.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering is required.
- Experience operating a scanning electron microscope and associated EDS chemical analysis equipment is preferred.
- Familiarity with the preparation of metallographic samples, including grinding, polishing, and microscopic imaging is beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and convey complex information effectively.
- A valid driver's license is necessary.

Additional Requirements:
- The selected applicant will undergo a government security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information.
- U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
