Position Overview
This role offers a competitive base salary of $66,000 annually, complemented by performance-based incentives.
The Senior Mortgage Loan Specialist II actively seeks out external mortgage opportunities to achieve defined loan quality, production, and service benchmarks. This position requires the continual identification, development, and maintenance of a robust network of professional relationships that serve as a consistent source of referrals for new mortgage lending prospects. The network may include real estate agents, builders, personal and professional contacts, and other valuable referral sources, bolstered by the loan officer's engagement in business development and community initiatives. The role involves overseeing the origination of various mortgage loan products and programs. The specialist addresses inquiries and referrals generated from both personal contacts and other business channels. The specialist conducts interviews with potential borrowers to assess financial and credit information, identify financing goals, inform members about product and pricing policies, and collect any additional necessary documentation. The specialist ensures exceptional service by maintaining comprehensive knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics, and adhering to all federal and state compliance regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Ensures the efficient and professional execution of assigned loan origination tasks.
- Possesses thorough knowledge of the mortgage loan products available, including standard secondary market loan programs, expanded criteria, investment property, and America First Loan programs.
- Demonstrates proficiency in mortgage origination software systems as expected for this role.
- Conducts interviews, pre-qualifies applicants, completes application documentation, and evaluates preliminary information for loan requests. Discusses loan options, credit criteria, interest rates, and documentation requirements. Explains the mortgage process, expected timelines, and locking procedures in a manner that fosters understanding and positive responses from members.
- Performs necessary follow-up to achieve conditional approvals within set timelines.
- Works to resolve loans referred by Underwriting or Automated Underwriting Systems within established time frames. Collaborates with members to discuss loan alternatives and determine the next steps for loan requests.
- Understands and executes lending operations in compliance with all applicable federal and state mortgage regulations, NCUA, and established credit union policies. Remains informed about any changes.
- Meets established loan production and service expectations.
- Maintains a comprehensive understanding of production and service expectations for the role.
- Develops and actively maintains a results-oriented marketing strategy.
- Drafts, implements, and updates the marketing plan as necessary in a well-organized and professional manner.
- Achieves and sustains a level of proficiency that meets the expectations of the position.
- Establishes and nurtures effective and professional relationships with members, realtors, builders, colleagues, and other industry professionals.
- Responds attentively to inquiries and resolves issues.
- Advises members on financial management and related matters.
- Provides timely updates to all involved parties.
- Collaborates effectively with loan assistants, processing, and underwriting teams.
- Projects the credit union's professional image by maintaining a clean and organized workspace and adhering to the credit union's dress code.
- Stays informed about changes and trends in the local real estate and competitive lending landscape.
- Maintains effective communication and coordination with credit union personnel and management.
- Coordinates activities with related departments and branches, providing support as needed.
- Functions as a vital member of the Mortgage department.
- Keeps management updated on area activities and significant issues.
- Participates in meetings and committees as required.
- Completes necessary records and reports promptly.
- Supports the mortgage team as needed for business development.
- Mentors others with mortgage expertise.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Cross-sells credit union services professionally.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
Training/Education/Certification:
- Associate degree in business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of formal training and experience.
- Meets federal and state licensing requirements.
- Understanding of the principles of credit assessment and borrower qualification.
- Familiarity with credit union loan policies, products, procedures, processing, and underwriting guidelines.
- Knowledge of title reports, insurance, and appraisals.
- Awareness of mortgage investor selling guidelines and requirements.
- One to two years of experience in mortgage loan origination.
- One to two years of related experience in mortgage loan processing.
- Experience in mortgage lending sales.
- A background in real estate is advantageous.
- Strong interviewing capabilities.
