Position Overview

This role offers a competitive base salary of $66,000 annually, complemented by performance-based incentives.

The Senior Mortgage Loan Originator II actively seeks external mortgage opportunities to achieve set standards for loan quality, production, and customer service. This position requires the individual to consistently identify, cultivate, and sustain a robust network of professional relationships that can provide a steady stream of referrals for new mortgage lending prospects. The network may include real estate agents, builders, and various professional and personal contacts, further enhanced by the mortgage loan officer's engagement in business development and community initiatives. This role oversees the origination of a variety of mortgage loan products and programs. The Mortgage Loan Originator responds to inquiries and referrals generated from their own network as well as other business channels. The MLO conducts interviews with potential borrowers to evaluate financial and credit information, ascertain financing goals, inform members about product and pricing policies, and collect any additional necessary documentation. The MLO guarantees exceptional service by maintaining comprehensive knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics, and adhering to all federal and state compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Ensures the proficient and professional execution of assigned loan origination tasks.

  1. Possesses thorough knowledge of the mortgage loan products available, including standard secondary market loan programs, expanded criteria, investment property, and America First Loan programs.
  2. Demonstrates complete understanding of mortgage origination software systems, as expected for this role.
  3. Conducts interviews, pre-qualifies applicants, completes application documents, and assesses preliminary documentation for loan requests. Discusses loan options, credit criteria, interest rates, and documentation requirements. Explains the mortgage process, expected timelines, and locking procedures clearly, ensuring mutual understanding and positive responses from members.
  4. Performs necessary follow-up to achieve conditional approval within established timelines.
  5. Addresses loans referred by Underwriting or Automated Underwriting Systems within designated time frames. Collaborates with members to determine the next steps for loan requests.
  6. Understands and executes lending operations in compliance with all applicable federal and state mortgage regulations, NCUA, and established credit union policies. Remains informed of any changes.
  7. Meets established loan production and service expectations.
  8. Maintains a complete understanding of the production and service expectations for the position.
  9. Develops and actively maintains a results-oriented, assertive marketing strategy.
  10. Drafts, implements, and revises the marketing plan as necessary in a well-organized and professional manner.
  11. Achieves and sustains a level of proficiency that meets position expectations.
  12. Establishes and nurtures effective and professional relationships with members, realtors, builders, colleagues, and other industry professionals.
  13. Responds attentively to inquiries and resolves issues.
  14. Advises members on financial management and related matters.
  15. Provides timely updates to all parties involved.
  16. Collaborates effectively with loan assistants, processing, and underwriting teams.

  20. Coordinates functions with related departments and branches, providing necessary support.
  21. Acts as a vital member of the Mortgage department.
  22. Keeps management updated on area activities and significant issues.
  23. Participates in meetings and committees as required.
  24. Completes necessary records and reports promptly.
  25. Provides support to the mortgage team as needed for business development.
  26. Mentors others with mortgage expertise.

Qualifications

Training/Education/Certification:
  • Associate degree in business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of formal training and experience.
  • Meets federal and state licensing standards.
Required Knowledge:
  • Understanding of the principles of assessing creditworthiness and borrower qualification.
  • Familiarity with credit union loan policies, products, procedures, processing, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Knowledge of title reports, insurance, and appraisals.
  • Understanding of mortgage investor selling guidelines and requirements.
Experience Required:
  • One to two years of experience in mortgage loan origination.
  • One to two years of related experience in mortgage loan processing.
  • Experience in mortgage lending sales.
  • A background in real estate is advantageous.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong interviewing capabilities.
