Position: Registered Nurse (Experienced)

Unit: Pediatric Specialties/Hematology-Oncology/Neurology

The Pediatric Specialties/Hematology-Oncology/Neurology unit at Duke University Hospital is a 20-bed pediatric intermediate care unit. Our dedicated team collaborates to provide exemplary care, adhering to Duke's core values while serving patients with hematology/oncology needs, general pediatric conditions, and medical subspecialties with a focus on neurology.

Candidate Profile:

Work Schedule:

Full-time position with 3 shifts of 12 hours. Rotating shifts include 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., or straight night shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Clinical Nurse II, you will be responsible for planning and delivering professional nursing care in alignment with established medical and nursing protocols. Your duties will include:

  • Providing, supervising, and documenting nursing care in accordance with physician orders and established guidelines.
  • Delegating tasks and overseeing the activities of other nursing staff.
  • Leading nursing teams and acting as charge nurse as required.
  • Monitoring care environments and initiating corrective actions as necessary.
  • Engaging in professional development and maintaining required competencies.
  • Mentoring and supporting the growth of staff and learners.
  • Identifying opportunities for clinical or operational improvements.
  • Performing additional related duties as needed.

Expectations:

  • Ability to multitask effectively, including documentation, care planning, and patient education.
  • Building relationships with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Bachelor's or Associate's degree).
  • A minimum of twelve months of relevant clinical experience is required.

All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing must enroll in a BSN program within two years of hire and complete it within five years.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing or compact RN licensure.
  • BLS certification is required.
