Work Schedule:
This position involves a rotating schedule, including day and night shifts (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 3:00 PM - 7:30 AM).

Unit Description:
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20-bed facility that operates within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. Our dedicated team delivers care for complex pediatric medical and surgical cases, utilizing a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach.

Patient Care:
Our patient population encompasses a variety of specialties, including but not limited to trauma, general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, oncology, solid organ transplants, burns, and various medical specialties. We emphasize a family-centered care model within our nurturing environment.

Role Responsibilities:
This position encompasses dual responsibilities, including those of a Nursing Assistant (NA) and Health Unit Coordinator. Key duties include:

  • Assisting professional caregivers in delivering patient care.
  • Transporting patients and equipment, and maintaining patient rooms.
  • Performing clerical tasks, including documentation and maintaining the patient care unit desk area.
  • Supporting physicians and healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures.
  • Monitoring patient care documentation and reporting significant changes to registered nurses or physicians.
  • Managing clerical responsibilities such as organizing workloads, greeting visitors, and maintaining medical records.
  • Conducting quality assurance audits and safety checks.
  • Providing clinical support, including cleaning work areas and assisting with supply inventory.
  • Delivering direct personal care to patients as outlined in their care plans.
  • Reinforcing routine patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must:

  • Be listed as Nurse Aide I on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Registry.
  • Hold Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Possess one year of clerical or customer service experience and six months of related nursing assistant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrate fluency in verbal and written English.
  • Exhibit the capability to develop computer skills if not already competent.
