Job Summary

The Staff Speech-Language Pathologist (Speech Pathologist 2) provides comprehensive speech therapy services to pediatric patients across the age continuum, from infants to adolescents, and from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Staff Speech-Language Pathologist plans and administers a full range of speech therapy services for patients with various physical and cognitive impairments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct patient evaluations using speech-language pathology tests and measurements.
  • Establish therapeutic intervention goals and develop therapeutic intervention programs.
  • Implement therapeutic intervention plans utilizing all aspects of the speech-language pathology scope of practice.
  • Maintain all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services.
  • Supervise support personnel, including Rehabilitation Aides, Speech-Language Pathology students, and clinical fellows.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational programs, including quality and performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and inservices and staff development activities.
Requirements
  • Masters degree with clinical fellowship.
  • Minimum one year of patient care experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • Basic computer skills, including work within Epic electronic medical record.
  • Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem-solving, and self-initiation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of licensed experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist working with pediatric populations.
  • Prior speech pathology experience in an academic medical center environment.
  • Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Pediatrics feeding and swallowing.
  • Pediatrics Modified Barium Swallow Study.
  • Current Pediatric FEES and/or MBSS competence.
License/Certification
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
