Role of a Telecommunications Technician

As a Telecommunications Technician, you will play a crucial role in the industry, representing the Cox Communications brand in a supportive and service-oriented team environment.

  • Install, reconnect, modify, and troubleshoot services related to Video, Telephony, High-Speed Internet, Home Automation, Home Life Security, and Fiber Optic systems at customer premises.
  • Educate customers about their current and new services, promote additional Cox offerings, and provide solutions to customer inquiries.
  • Take necessary actions to ensure an exceptional customer experience.
  • Adhere to IES Core Values by delivering work of the highest quality in an efficient manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: None required

Experience: 0-2 years

Specific Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (Priority)
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record (Priority)
  • 21 years of age (Preferred but not mandatory - must be able to obtain necessary licenses)
  • One year of experience in a related field such as construction, mechanics, or another hands-on trade
  • Minimum of one year of direct customer service experience
  • Proficiency in PC and Windows software
  • Stable work history
  • Willingness to work required shifts and overtime as needed
  • Spanish proficiency is desirable in some locations
  • Ability to work flexible and non-traditional schedules, including 5 & 6-day work weeks
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and colleagues

Preferred:
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; additional education is a plus.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to carry and utilize tools and equipment
  • Capability to complete documentation and inspect, install, and repair materials and equipment
  • Required ability to drive a motor vehicle
  • Ability to distinguish different colors of wire
  • Effective communication skills in person and by telephone
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, and crawl
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and manage a 28-foot extension ladder
  • Capability to climb ladders and/or utility poles and work at heights
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as crawl spaces and attics
  • Tolerance for temporary exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme heat
