Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Engineer IV to join our team at NV Energy. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and operating our telecommunications infrastructure in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Telecommunication System Design and Maintenance
    • Design and implement telecommunication systems, including MPLS networks, fiber optic, SONET, and microwave communications.
    • Perform and oversee telecommunication system and circuit design, including creating system proposals, updating traffic circuits, and providing scoping, network diagram, and design documentation.
  • Project Management and Technical Leadership
    • Serve as technical lead on major projects or system upgrades, providing day-to-day support to project teams, creating documentation and budget recommendations, and keeping documentation and telecom records updated.
    • Assess telecommunication system equipment and develop improvement plans and solutions, studying feasibility and developing project plans to improve the system.
  • Documentation and Compliance
    • Prepare and maintain documentation that meets the requirements of NERC CIP, WECC, and FERC, including preparing and/or directing the preparation of telecommunication specifications for material purchases.
    • Implement purchases within the framework of NV Energy policy and ensure compliance with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to the position and company.
  • Technical Support and Communication
    • Provide advanced technical support to maintain and operate NV Energy's telecommunication systems, troubleshooting problems and resolving or providing problem resolution direction to others.
    • Renew the district's FCC licenses, modify licenses, and apply for new licenses as needed, submitting annual construction reports and responding to all FCC requests for information on district radio systems.
Requirements
  • Education and Work Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field, and 15 years of telecommunications or networking experience.
    • Candidates without a bachelor's degree must have a minimum of 19 years of telecommunications or networking experience.
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills
    • Demonstrated knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to the corporation, all areas of business operations, including administrative services, company products and services, SCADA circuit, LAN/WAN switching, routing, and MPLS, TCP/IP and Ethernet network fundamentals, RF Design, RF Survey, and RTUs, fiber optic cables, and DC battery plants and grounding systems.
    • Demonstrated skills in detail-oriented, human relations, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, and providing technical leadership to staff.
  • Equipment and Applications
    • Proficiency in PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Work Environment and Physical Demands
    • General office environment with no special physical demands required.
