Position Overview:

The Department of Medicine - Division of Hematology and Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin is in search of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to enhance the Hematology/Oncology and BMT Inpatient services.

Our dedicated team, comprising MD and PhD faculty, advanced practice providers, nurses, and administrative staff, is committed to delivering patient-centered clinical care and advancing research aimed at improving treatments for cancer and blood disorders. We specialize in various aspects of medical oncology, including the management of solid tumors, hematologic cancers, bone marrow transplantation, and cellular therapies, while also providing care for non-cancerous blood disorders.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will collaborate within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to program administration, patient care, safety, research, quality improvement, and education.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work alongside interdisciplinary healthcare teams to diagnose and treat conditions requiring Hematology/Oncology/BMT intervention in an inpatient setting.
  2. Document accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and admission/transfer orders.
  3. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures, ensuring effective communication and documentation.
  4. Perform privileged procedures as designated by the Hematology/Oncology/BMT services.
  5. Facilitate communication with patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care.
  6. Participate in required training and meet key regulatory standards.
  7. Evaluate patient care quality outcomes through the development of quality indicators and dashboards.
  8. Stay informed on the latest developments in the Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner fields through ongoing education and literature review.
  9. Engage in clinical research projects related to hematology, oncology, and BMT.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations, identifying both normal and abnormal findings.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, ensuring clear communication of results.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of care plans.
  • Educate patients regarding their health conditions and treatment options.
  • Perform procedures as trained and credentialed.
  • Document all interactions within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete necessary documentation.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Assist patients and families with health maintenance and preventive care education.
  • Continuously update knowledge on advancements in the Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner fields.
