The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a crucial role within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to program management, patient care, safety, research, quality enhancement, and education.

The Department of Pediatrics - Division of Genetics is looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Pediatric Genetics team. This role involves delivering professional healthcare services to patients and their families, assisting in the diagnostic and therapeutic management of diverse patient groups within the Genetics clinic.

Our Pediatric Genetics section is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate clinical care. We are at the forefront of developing new therapies for genetic disorders and advancing diagnostics in genomic medicine. Our educational initiatives aim to train the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Pediatric Genetics team to address the healthcare needs of patients with genetic disorders.
  • Conduct patient examinations and document comprehensive medical histories.
  • Analyze and synthesize patient data to inform care decisions.
  • Establish differential diagnoses based on assessment findings.
  • Select and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Prioritize care based on clinical needs.
  • Make independent clinical judgments and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Assess the educational needs of patients and families, developing culturally sensitive teaching strategies.
  • Document admission, discharge, and transfer orders under physician supervision.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in line with established protocols.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments in pediatrics and genetics through continuous education and professional engagement.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research as appropriate.

Preferred Schedule:

Full-time position with a blend of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities in managing Genetics patients.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Licensure:

Wisconsin RN License and Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License for Nurse Practitioners; Wisconsin Physician Assistant License and NCCPA certification for Physician Assistants.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior clinical experience in APP or nursing roles is preferred.
  • Strong interest in genetics is advantageous.
