Position Overview

Utilize your enthusiasm and dedication to positively impact the educational journey of students and their families. As a Special Education Teacher at Eden Autism Services, you will focus on delivering tailored education to high school students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

At Eden Autism Services, our educators work alongside a dynamic and knowledgeable team of clinical and educational professionals to implement effective educational and behavioral programs for each student.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction and Behavior Oversight

  • Design and execute Individual Education Programs (IEPs) that align with behavioral and educational objectives using an ABA framework.
  • Create and organize curriculum, programs, and instructional materials. Establish and manage effective schedules tailored to each student.
  • Facilitate group activities employing the leader-prompter model. Support colleagues in supervising students during various activities. Provide coverage during staff absences and assist with physical education and community outings.
  • Recognize and address maladaptive behaviors such as tantrums, self-injury, and aggression. Develop and implement suitable reinforcement strategies.

Assessment and Documentation

  • Develop, review, and maintain students' IEPs; actively participate in IEP meetings.
  • Monitor, maintain, and analyze data collection and graphical representations to evaluate program effectiveness. Assist in identifying and resolving problem areas. Conduct reliability assessments on behavior management programs.
  • Support student transitions to alternative programs, both within and outside of Eden.
  • Compose quarterly progress reports and summaries for each student.

Classroom Management

  • Supervise Teaching Assistants assigned to the classroom.
  • Monitor student health and well-being. Maintain attendance records and ensure consistent communication with families.
  • Engage in weekly staff meetings and training sessions throughout the year.
  • Assist in parent training initiatives during school visits, as appropriate.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with all staff members, providing training and constructive feedback as necessary. Lead monthly classroom discussion groups.
  • Uphold a professional demeanor and ensure confidentiality regarding students, families, and staff.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in special education or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred)
  • New Jersey Certification in Special Education/Teacher of the Handicapped
  • New Jersey Certification in Elementary Education and Teacher of Students with Disabilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to sit, stand, bend, squat, kneel, stretch, stoop, and/or reach above shoulder level for extended periods.
  • Ability to move swiftly to ensure student safety at all times.
  • Maintain Professional Crisis Management (PCM) certification, including the application of all relevant strategies and techniques.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Proficient in Applied Behavior Analysis; knowledgeable about behavioral and instructional methodologies.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational capabilities, with a focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, exercising independent judgment, and making decisions based on established policies and procedures.
