General Responsibilities

As a Safety and Security Specialist at Indiana Tech, you will be responsible for providing public assistance and ensuring the safety of the university community. Your duties will include personal and property protection, escort services, deterring criminal activity, and collaborating with emergency responders during incidents. Additionally, you will manage emergency situations, oversee parking and access control, and perform various assigned tasks.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular patrols of university property, both on foot and in a vehicle.
  • Act as a campus security authority in accordance with the Clery Act.
  • Enforce university policies and report any violations of local, state, and federal laws.
  • Operate campus security vehicles as required.
  • Perform routine checks and testing of safety and security systems, including alarms and emergency notifications.
  • Facilitate safety drills as directed.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras and conduct reviews, saving footage as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate departmental records and documentation, including incident reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations regarding security.
  • Approach and assess suspicious individuals and monitor for unauthorized access.
  • Report criminal activities and respond to campus incidents.
  • Collaborate with emergency responders during incidents.
  • Manage keys, visitor parking permits, and ID badge issuance.
  • Provide campus escorts and manage parking control requests.
  • Engage positively and professionally with the campus community.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Support the mission and strategic objectives of Indiana Institute of Technology.
Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Indiana driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective task prioritization skills.
  • Commitment to ethical practices.
  • Critical thinking and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database management.
Experience
  • Preferred experience in security or law enforcement.
  • Strong communication skills in a diverse community setting.
  • Ability to prepare reports and learn new computer systems.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations is a plus.
Working Environment

This position typically involves a 40-hour work week in a campus environment, including both indoor and outdoor settings. Candidates should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and navigate campus facilities, including stairs. Travel between university properties may be required.
