Safety & Security Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Safety and Security, this role is responsible for safeguarding university assets from fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access. The position involves inspecting facilities to ensure adherence to safety and health regulations, as well as ensuring the well-being of individuals on campus through various duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular patrols of campus buildings and grounds, both on foot and by vehicle, to identify safety issues, mechanical concerns, and security breaches.
  • Document patrol activities in daily reports, submitting work orders for identified safety and mechanical issues, and addressing security violations.
  • Report for duty punctually, remain on duty until relieved, and provide briefings to incoming officers at shift changes.
  • Utilize the BASIS system to generate identification cards, manage access levels, and control electronic door access.
  • Enforce traffic regulations by issuing citations and entering relevant data into the patrol database.
  • Maintain readiness to provide emergency medical assistance by keeping CPR/AED first aid certification current and coordinating with emergency medical services as necessary.
  • Perform monthly inspections of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and first aid kits, while maintaining accurate records.
  • Open and secure buildings and areas for scheduled events, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Be available for communication during off-duty hours, responding to urgent messages in a timely manner.
  • Provide security coverage for athletic and special events, as well as filling in for shifts as needed.
  • Maintain communication with campus constituents in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Assist with vehicle jump-starts and tire inflation requests promptly.
  • Respond to escort service requests for safety or medical reasons, providing observational support as needed.
  • Manage campus vehicle reservations, ensuring proper check-out and check-in procedures are followed.
  • Respond to incidents and accidents, conducting initial investigations and generating incident reports as required.
  • In emergencies, assume the role of Incident Commander, coordinating with university personnel and local agencies.
  • Offer information and assistance to guests and the campus community courteously and professionally.
  • Uphold federal, state, local, and university regulations impartially and respectfully.
  • Complete assignments within designated timeframes and adhere to departmental standards.
  • Exhibit behaviors aligned with the values of the University of Saint Francis.
  • Report any changes in driving status or criminal infractions to a supervisor within 24 hours.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: At least one year of experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related field is required; relevant training or a combination of education and experience may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications: Must obtain or maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within one year of employment.

Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook; familiar with university ID, access, and CCTV systems; knowledgeable about OSHA safety regulations; capable of reading and comprehending written instructions and reports; able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
