The Department

The Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies Department at SSU offers a distinctive curriculum that equips students with a profound theoretical understanding of the criminal justice system, alongside essential critical thinking skills for today's competitive job market.

We serve a diverse undergraduate population of approximately 250 majors, with nearly 40% identifying as minorities.

Our alumni pursue careers in various fields beyond criminal justice, including law school, graduate studies, and numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations.


Position Responsibilities
The CCJS Department is seeking a well-rounded individual in the interdisciplinary domain of criminology and criminal justice. We are particularly interested in candidates capable of teaching core courses within the department.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the academic success of all students and foster an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates diversity.

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a Master's degree or Juris Doctor (JD); a PhD is preferred.

Compensation
The full-time workload consists of 15 units per semester.

Salary is contingent upon the number of units assigned, educational qualifications, and available funding, in accordance with CSU system faculty contract salary increases.


  • Salary will be commensurate with degree level and experience.
  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.
  • The monthly base salary range is prorated based on the number of units worked and is paid in six monthly installments for each full semester.
  • Selection as a candidate does not guarantee employment; temporary faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis, subject to departmental needs and funding.
  • Temporary faculty appointments are renewed on a semester-by-semester basis.
  • Relocation expenses are not covered for temporary faculty positions.
  • Interview-related expenses for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.

For current temporary faculty already teaching in the department:
  • Temporary faculty with three-year contracts are not required to reapply.
  • Temporary faculty who have taught in the department within the last two years only need to submit an updated CV to remain in the applicant pool. The hiring committee will review the Personnel Action File to determine if an additional interview is necessary.
SSU hires only individuals legally authorized to work in the United States.

All employment offers are contingent upon the presentation of documents verifying the appointee's identity and eligibility to work, in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

SSU does not facilitate H1B Visa applications for temporary positions.

CSU Out of State Policy - As part of the CSU system, SSU requires all employees to reside in California upon hire.
