The University
Sonoma State University's picturesque 274-acre campus is situated in the heart of Sonoma County wine country, approximately an hour north of San Francisco.

The Department

The Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies Department at Sonoma State offers a distinctive curriculum that equips students with a profound theoretical understanding of the criminal justice system and the critical thinking skills necessary for success in today’s job market.

Currently, we serve a diverse undergraduate population of approximately 250 majors, with nearly 40% identifying as minorities.

Our graduates pursue careers in various fields beyond criminal justice, including law school, graduate studies, and positions in both governmental and non-governmental organizations.


Position Responsibilities
The CCJS Department is seeking a well-rounded individual in the interdisciplinary field of criminology and criminal justice. We are particularly interested in candidates capable of teaching courses within the department's core curriculum.

The ideal candidate will be dedicated to the academic success of all students and to fostering an environment that recognizes, encourages, and celebrates diversity and differences.

To achieve this, the successful candidate will work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess: a Master's degree or Juris Doctorate; a PhD is preferred.

Compensation
The full-time workload is 15 units per semester.

Actual salary will depend on the number of units assigned, educational qualifications, and available funding, subject to any faculty contract salary increases.


  • Salary is commensurate with degree level and experience.
  • Anticipated Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.
  • The monthly base salary range is prorated based on the number of units worked and is paid in six monthly installments for each full semester.
  • Selection as a candidate does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and are contingent upon departmental needs and funding.
  • Temporary Faculty appointments are renewed on a semester-by-semester basis.
  • Relocation expenses are not covered for temporary faculty appointments.
  • Interview expenses for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.

Application procedures for current temporary faculty already teaching in the department:
  • Temporary Faculty with three-year contracts are not required to reapply.
  • Temporary Faculty who have taught in the department within the last two years only need to submit an updated CV to remain in the applicant pool. The hiring committee will review the Personnel Action File to determine if an additional interview is necessary.
