Position Overview: Certified Correctional Officer

Key Responsibilities:

As a Certified Correctional Officer, you will oversee and manage the custody and activities of inmates, ensuring adherence to facility protocols and regulations. Your role will involve:

  • Monitoring inmate behavior through surveillance systems and direct observation.
  • Processing incoming inmates, which includes conducting searches, securing personal items, and completing necessary documentation such as fingerprinting and photographing.
  • Maintaining accurate records and conducting inventory of inmate belongings.
  • Regularly inspecting security features such as doors and windows to ensure they are secure and undisturbed.
  • Addressing inquiries from the public, fellow officers, administrative personnel, and inmates.
  • Ensuring a clean and organized work environment, including your assigned vehicle.
  • Participating in meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities as required.
  • Executing additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Possession of a valid Correctional Officer Certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
OR
  • A certificate of completion from an accredited criminal justice program along with proof of passing the State of Florida certification examination.
  • A valid Florida driver's license, which must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Compliance with the minimum requirements as outlined in Florida Statute.
