Job Overview

Position Summary

WSP is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer - Hydropower, Assistant Vice President to enhance our capabilities in the Clean Energy Business Line. This role involves working with a diverse team dedicated to delivering engineering solutions for hydropower and utility clients across the nation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical systems in compliance with relevant codes and standards, ensuring adherence to WSP's policies on Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control.
  • Deliver comprehensive designs that align with industry standards and demonstrate excellent constructability.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of existing generation and interconnection systems, providing recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Oversee the design of electrical generation facilities, including upgrades to governors and exciters, as well as new turbine installations.
  • Prepare detailed project specifications for the procurement and installation of materials and equipment.
  • Review designs for compliance with codes and best practices, ensuring constructability and quality.
  • Engage in site inspections and meetings during the construction phase to address queries and ensure project integrity.
  • Maintain meticulous project documentation, including as-built requirements and completion packages.
  • Coordinate design activities with multidisciplinary project teams, fostering strong relationships with suppliers and contractors.
  • Mentor junior staff to promote their professional growth and development.
  • Develop a client base for high-level electrical engineering services and identify new business opportunities.
  • Stay updated on the latest electrical engineering techniques and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with professionals across various disciplines on projects funded by Tribal, Federal, State, and local entities.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional duties as required by business needs.
Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering and design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred in multiple states.
  • In-depth knowledge of electric power systems, generators, and transmission & distribution systems.
  • Proficiency in industry standards, including NEC, NESC, and IEEE.
  • Strong technical writing and design software skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients and stakeholders.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in consulting firms and renewable energy projects.
  • OSHA Health & Safety Training certification.
