Job Overview

Position Summary

WSP is currently seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer - Hydropower, Assistant Vice President for our team.

As part of our Clean Energy Business Line, you will engage in significant projects that support our clients in addressing Climate Change through the development of clean hydropower and the integration of renewable energy resources.

This role involves collaborating with a diverse team to design efficient facilities and systems that enhance power generation, control, and interconnection services for hydropower and related energy initiatives. You will also contribute to the preparation of cost estimates and project proposals, working closely with generation owners and operators to innovate and advance energy generation, storage, and transmission technologies.

Your Contributions
  • Ensure design activities comply with relevant codes and standards, including WSP's policies on Safety, Environmental considerations, and Quality Assurance.
  • Deliver precise and comprehensive designs that adhere to industry standards and best practices.
  • Conduct inspections and analyses to evaluate existing generation and interconnection systems, recommending improvements as necessary.
  • Design electrical generation facilities, including upgrades to governors and exciters, as well as new turbine installations.
  • Prepare specifications for materials and equipment procurement and installation.
  • Review designs for compliance with codes and good engineering practices.
  • Address site queries, participate in site meetings, and conduct inspections during construction phases.
  • Maintain thorough documentation related to generation system design and construction.
  • Foster strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure project quality and efficiency.
  • Mentor junior staff to promote their professional development.
  • Lead discipline and task assignments effectively.
  • Develop a client base for high-level electrical engineering services and identify business development opportunities.
  • Stay updated on the latest electrical engineering techniques and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with professionals across various disciplines on funded projects and proposals.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed based on business requirements.
Qualifications

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering and design.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred in applicable states.
  • In-depth knowledge of modern electric power systems and applicable industry standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and design software.
  • Experience in preparing complex technical documents and deliverables.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with clients and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs and schedules.
  • Willingness to travel as required for project needs.
Preferred Skills
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in consulting and renewable energy projects.
  • Relevant safety training certifications.
