Support Staff/Teacher Assistant

Qualifications:
No prior experience is necessary; however, experience with students is advantageous. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively with children, adhere to both verbal and written instructions, and possess basic computer skills. If a specific role necessitates a unique competency, the new hire must either possess that skill or receive training from the employer. A Paraprofessional License is required.
Reports to:
Classroom educators and the building principal.
Job Goals:
Execute responsibilities that are instructional in nature or provide direct services to students or parents. Serve in a capacity where a teacher or another professional retains ultimate responsibility for the design and execution of educational programs and services.
Performance Responsibilities:
Planning and Preparation
- Assist the educator in organizing and maintaining a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment while ensuring the well-being and safety of the children.
- Foster a collaborative atmosphere with the teacher, planning and implementing engaging activities.
- Collaborate with the teacher to prepare materials and supplies for various activities and assignments.
- Uphold administrative policies and regulations governing student behavior.
- Engage in staff development training sessions, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Participate in committees to provide insights and contribute to the organization.
- Assist with maintaining discipline and provide insights regarding behavioral changes.
- Offer additional support to students with special needs and those who are non-English speakers.
- Deliver RTI instructional support and assist students individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts introduced by teachers.
- Present subject matter to students under the guidance of teachers, utilizing lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
- Monitor student performance, document relevant data to assess progress, and input behavioral data concerning PBIS.
- Provide students with assistive devices and supportive technology as necessary.
- Implement therapeutic plans such as behavior strategies under the supervision of special education instructors, psychologists, or speech-language pathologists.
- Coordinate with classroom teachers to discuss assigned duties and align instructional efforts.
- When utilizing a scripted intervention for reading, writing, and math, the program must be executed by adhering to the script provided in the teacher's manual.
- Offer feedback to students regarding academic and behavioral assessments.
- Grade assignments and tests, recording results appropriately.
- Assist in various areas outside the classroom, including supervision during bathroom breaks, loading and unloading buses, hallway monitoring, and lunchroom assistance as needed.
- Exhibit a genuine nurturing and caring attitude towards all children.
- Maintain confidentiality concerning students' academic and personal information.
- Perform other relevant teacher assistant duties as directed by administration.
