Job Description / Key Responsibilities:

Utilizing fluency in both Spanish and English, support educators in delivering instructional materials; provide tutoring to individuals or small groups; reinforce or follow up on lessons by narrating stories, offering specialized instructional support, engaging in practice and listening exercises, and facilitating discussions and other educational activities.

Assist students in learning centers with the use of dictionaries, research materials, and reading skills in both languages; help identify student learning needs and evaluate instructional effectiveness and student progress; aid teachers in preparing lesson plans or develop tailored plans based on guidance regarding students' educational requirements.

Provide emotional support, positive reinforcement, and general guidance; assist in creating and preparing educational materials; maintain inventories of resources and equipment utilized in learning activities.

Perform clerical duties such as grading and recording assessments, updating student records, tracking attendance and grades; operate office equipment for the preparation of instructional materials, bulletins, or other resources; prepare labels, charts, bulletin boards, and educational displays as directed; organize classrooms and instructional areas; may accompany students on educational trips; may participate in training sessions and school events; assist teachers in maintaining discipline and supervising various areas; provide translation and interpretation services in Spanish; uphold the confidentiality of student records and school reports; may assist with parent meetings and make home visits under teacher direction; may administer first aid in the absence of the teacher or school nurse.

Requirements / Qualifications

The Baldwin Park Unified School District is seeking Bilingual Educational Support Specialists. Under general supervision, the individual will assist, tutor, and educate preschool and school-age students in a classroom or similar learning environment following a structured curriculum. The Bilingual Educational Support Specialist will also supervise students and perform clerical and paraprofessional tasks in English language acquisition programs, along with related duties as required.

Selection Process:
The selection process typically includes a review of applications, passing an instructional proficiency exam, a bilingual exam, and interviews. The Human Resources Department will notify all applicants once the selection process is complete.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation; successful completion of the District instructional aide examination or at least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education or an associate's degree or higher; possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above; completion of 12 core early childhood education classes is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must successfully pass the bilingual proficiency examination administered by the District.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Must possess a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit and be enrolled in an accredited institution leading to an associate degree or higher in early childhood education or a related field. This requirement is specific to Head Start employment.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.

Preference:
*Valid First Aid and CPR Certification issued by an authorized agency.
