Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Utility Engineer to join our team at the University of Pennsylvania. As a key member of our Facilities and Real Estate Services department, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing utility data, ensuring accurate billing and budgeting, and implementing energy conservation efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage utility metering and billing processes, ensuring accurate and timely data collection and analysis.
  • Collect, review, and record monthly utility meter information for environmental, energy, and billing purposes.
  • Provide utility data to accounting for billing purposes and to Hospital and non-academic users connected to the University's utility systems.
  • Support campus sustainability initiatives by providing energy data and assisting with the preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Collaborate with staff to collect, track, and report quarterly energy reduction metrics and compute actual quarterly and annual carbon reduction.
  • Perform analyses on utility bills and meter data to validate consumption, billing rates, pass-through costs, and total expenses.
  • Provide forecasts of future energy use and energy costs for budgeting purposes.
  • Assist with the management of contracts related to meter calibration and repair, as well as interact with University trades to ensure accurate meter readings.
  • Support the Energy Engineering Manager in planning to meet the long-range energy and utility infrastructure needs of the University.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 3-5 years of engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing, manipulating, and analyzing large amounts of numerical data using spreadsheets and other computer-based analytic software.
  • Experience utilizing enterprise-wide software systems, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Building Management Systems, and Financial Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with building controls, utility meters, and an understanding of energy markets and utility billing procedures.
