Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Water Utility Director to join our team at the City of Philadelphia. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for directing the operations of our water treatment plant systems and ensuring that treatment processes comply with legal and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct the operations of water treatment plant systems, including biosolids management
  • Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance programs for plant facilities
  • Ensure that treatment processes comply with legal and environmental standards
  • Provide safe and cost-effective services to the public
  • Coordinate plant activities with other departmental programs
  • Establish effective working relationships with external governmental and regulatory agencies
Requirements
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree program in sanitary, environmental, civil, chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering
  • Five years of engineering experience, either in water or wastewater treatment plant operation
  • Two years of experience as a Water Utility Manager directing plant operations and maintenance
  • Or two years of experience directing water or wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance at a treatment facility serving a population of more than 150,000
Preferred Qualifications
  • Class A license for Water and Wastewater Systems Operators issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
  • Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
