Your Role
We are seeking a full-time Geotechnical/Civil Engineer to contribute to our Albany, NY office. The ideal candidate will leverage their technical expertise to tackle a variety of geotechnical engineering challenges associated with transportation, building, and water projects. Responsibilities may encompass specialized services such as the analysis and design of foundation systems for bridges and buildings, slope stability assessments, ground improvement strategies, and support for stream channel restoration initiatives. Collaboration with other Stantec teams on geotechnical-related projects is also anticipated.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance our reputation with clients and industry professionals by delivering exceptional service.
  • Expand internal and external networks to strengthen Stantec's presence and attract new talent.
  • Assist Project Technical Leads and Managers in defining project goals, procedures, and performance metrics, while leading multidisciplinary teams through proposals, planning studies, and construction services for geotechnical projects.
  • Oversee and guide team members on various projects, ensuring effective task completion and delegation.
  • Conduct and review engineering analyses and develop comprehensive calculation packages.
  • Mentor and train junior staff to foster professional growth.
  • Build and maintain client relationships to support project initiatives.
  • Encourage collaboration and teamwork across different business lines and locations.
  • Serve as Engineer-of-Record for projects and associated reports.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with professional organizations relevant to your expertise, contributing to technical papers and presentations at conferences.
  • Provide construction support services, including document reviews and clarifications.
  • Assist in developing new standards and specifications for your discipline, collaborating with other Stantec teams on projects across North America.
Qualifications
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and engage with clients effectively.
  • Strong time management skills with a focus on project roles, scheduling, and resource efficiency.
  • Comprehensive understanding of client expectations, budgeting, and high-quality deliverable production.
  • In-depth knowledge of all phases of design projects, from proposals to final reports.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations and adaptability to client-specific requirements.
  • Efficient management of multiple concurrent projects and tasks.
  • Capability to review the work of others for accuracy and completeness.
  • Excellent team-building skills and willingness to collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Strong knowledge of civil and geotechnical systems, materials, and industry standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and related materials.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with industry-standard software is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel for project meetings and site investigations as needed.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one jurisdiction, with the potential for reciprocity in other states.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Experience with NYSDOT and NYSTA is preferred.

This position offers flexible office and field arrangements based on project requirements. The typical work environment involves computer-based tasks and desk work, with fieldwork that may expose you to various weather conditions.
