Overview:


Barnes & Noble Education, Inc. is in search of a resourceful, driven, adaptable, and customer-oriented individual to take on the role of Retail Operations Assistant Manager.

The Retail Operations Assistant Manager will possess a strong understanding of department and store functions to ensure exemplary customer service for the academic and co-curricular community.

You will be responsible for maintaining your designated area, ensuring it is well-merchandised and operationally efficient.

Responsibilities:
As a Retail Operations Assistant Manager, you will support all store functions and departments in collaboration with the management team.

You will oversee one or more departments in the store or manage specific operational tasks in the absence of senior management.

It is essential to be knowledgeable about department and store operations; deliver outstanding customer service to the academic and co-curricular community; and ensure that your area of responsibility is well-maintained, properly merchandised, and operationally effective.


Expectations:


Assist in the daily management of the store alongside the Assistant Store Manager, Department Manager, and/or other management team members.


Act as the Manager-on-Duty, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of all store departments to provide daily support, direction, and guidance to customers and team members, ensuring adherence to all operational standards.


Utilize analytical skills and knowledge of the campus environment to effectively manage daily operations and make informed decisions.


Assist in delegating tasks and providing focused direction to team members to manage and complete multiple projects, ensuring the successful execution of the workload.


Maintain a visible presence on the sales floor to greet customers, address inquiries, and assist with purchases of textbooks, merchandise, or services as needed.

Ensure an appealing sales environment—tagging, shelving, arranging, cleaning, and organizing products or spaces within the store.

Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments as required.

Physical Demands:
Frequent movement throughout the store to access various departments, areas, and products.

Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.

Frequent lifting required.

Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

COVID-19 Considerations:
Our stores adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local guidelines regarding social distancing and sanitization. Depending on individual campus requirements, positions may necessitate confirmation of vaccination. The use of face masks throughout the day and while on campus may also be expected or mandated.

Qualifications:


2+ years of experience in a retail environment as a manager or buyer preferred, or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.

High school diploma/GED preferred.

Exceptional customer service skills to effectively match customers with products that meet their needs.

Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.

Excellent customer service and communication skills essential.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
