The Animal Care Business Office (ACBO) is dedicated to providing essential administrative and operational assistance for the Animal Care Program (ACP). Under the guidance of the Campus Attending Veterinarian, the ACP ensures the responsible use and care of animals utilized in research and educational settings.

The ACP comprises three main units: 1. Teaching and Research Animal Care Services (TRACS) - the primary unit responsible for the daily care and oversight of animals involved in teaching and research; 2. Campus Veterinary Services (CVS) - tasked with guaranteeing adequate and humane veterinary care for the animals; and 3. Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) - which supervises the university's animal care and use program, reviews animal use protocols, ensures compliance with regulations, and oversees training programs.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Animal Care Business Office Manager, this role is crucial for managing complex purchasing and accounting processes related to laboratory animals across the university. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with federal regulations and meeting strict deadlines. The position also involves providing operational support for the Animal Care Program, including coordinating animal transfers, managing imports and exports, handling facility maintenance requests, and overseeing access management.

The individual will serve as the primary point of contact for customers and visitors to the Animal Care Business Office, offering business and administrative support across the three units of the Animal Care Program as needed.

Physical Demands:

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in purchasing, accounts payable, and accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in automated accounting systems for processing financial transactions.
  • High accuracy in data entry for diverse data types.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills for effective communication with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to interpret and apply university policies and procedures.

Preferred:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues and implement solutions.
  • Familiarity with UC Davis automated systems and university policies.
  • Knowledge of campus-wide resources and administrative contacts.
